When you turn on your system for the first time, you must INITIALIZE it with the System
Initialize Switch and Reset Button on the cabinet. Instructions for this procedure start on
page 98 of the installation manual. If you install any optional circuit modules after initializing,
you don't have to initialize the system again. The system will automatically recognize the
new additions.

Before installing an optional circuit board (Panasonic calls it a "service card") that has jacks
("ports") in it, you'll have to remove an appropriate size Dummy Cover plate. Use a wire cutter to
snip through the supporting tabs, and then use the cutter or a knife blade to remove the rough
edges.

  • Be careful not to cut yourself.
  • Remove any little pieces of plastic that fall into the cabinet.
  • Be careful no to cut too much or snap the thin plastic between the openings.
  • Open the 848 cabinet -- circuit boards go in through the top, not through the openings in
    the jack panel.
Position the card in the mounting position (which may be on top of another card), making sure
that the tabs on both sides of the card fit into place. Then, holding the card firmly, lower its
rear end so the hole in the card fits over the extension bolt.

Insert the new extension bolt (included with the new card) and tighten it to secure the card in
position.
When installing a card in Slot 11,
tighten the card using the screw
included with the card, instead of the
extension bolt.
After you've installed the new card(s) and turned the power back on, the system will automatically
recognize what you've installed.
