Overview:  This procedure is to be used to upgrade an existing TAW848 version 1.0 or 2.0 to
use the new 3.0 features.
Procedure:  Before beginning the upgrade procedure, make sure that both current and new
versions of PC Maintenance Console are installed on the PC.
Note:  Certain user data is cleared during the upgrade process, including Outgoing Messages
(OGMs). Before upgrading the TAW848, you can back up OGMs to a PC using the Maintenance
Console software.

This is a five (5)-step procedure.
1-Backing up current DSSYS
2-Converting DSSYS data
3-Updating existing SD card
4-Initializing TAW848
5-Restoring DSSYS data.

Backing Up Current System Data (DSSYS):
-        Connect to the TAW using Maintenance Console.  (The appropriate version of
Maintenance Console will be selected automatically.)
-        From the Tool menu, select SD Memory Backup.  The current DSSYS system data file will
be copied from the PBX to the SD Memory Card.
-        Copy the current DSSYS file from the SD Memory Card to the PC.
-        Go to Utility menu, select File Transfer PBX (SD Card) to PC.
-        Select DSSYS from the list of files.
-        Click Transfer.  The Save dialog box will be displayed.
-        Select the folder to save the file in and enter a file name.
-        Click Save.  A message will be displayed when the transfer is complete.  Click OK.
-        Go to File menu, select Exit, click OK.  The Maintenance Console software will close. This
step is necessary to switch to the current version of Maintenance Console.

Converting the current user data:
-        Start new version 3.0 Maintenance Console. (Do not connect to the TAW.)
-        From the File menu, select Open.  The Open dialog box will be displayed.
-        Navigate to the folder in which you saved the DSSYS file previously.
-        Select the file and click Open.  A dialog box will appear to confirm that you want to convert
the data.  Click Yes.
-        Enter a name for the new converted system file.  The DSSYS file will be converted for
compatibility with the new version of Maintenance Console, saved and opened.
-        From the File menu, select Close, to close the currently open system file.

Updating the SD Card:  Please note that Version 3.0 requires upgrading most of the PRIVATE
(PBX) folder files, therefore the following procedure must be performed in order to upgrade your
SD card correctly.
Note: You will need a SD Card Reader/Writer for this procedure.

-        Power off TAW system, wait 10 seconds and remove SD card.  Keep this SD card on hand
as you will need it to complete this upgrade.
-        Download new version 3.0 PRIVATE folder contents into a folder on your computer.
-        Open new PRIVATE folder, open MEIGROUP folder, open PCC folder and open PBX folder
– all new files will be revealed.
-        Select all files of your new PBX folder, right click and copy all files.
-        Insert your current KX-TAW SD card into your SD reader/writer.
-        Go to the appropriate drive for the SD Card, open PRIVATE folder, open MEIGROUP
folder, open PCC folder and open PBX folder.
-        Paste all files you copied previously into the PBX folder on your KX-TAW SD Card.
-        During copy process, prompts will ask you if you want to replace existing files with new files,
make sure that you choose option “YES – TO ALL”

Now your updated SD card is ready to use.

Initializing the TAW848:
-        Insert SD card into TAW848.
-        Slide the System Initialize Switch to the "SYSTEM INITIALIZE" position.
-        Turn on the power to the TAW.
-        When the RUN light begins flashing, press and release the RESET button (with a small,
pointed tool).
-        When the RUN light begins flashing again, slide the System Initialize Switch back to the
"NORMAL" position.

Restore the user data (DSSYS):
-        Connect to the PBX using Maintenance Console.
-        From the Utility menu, select File Transfer PC to PBX (SD Card).  The Open dialog box will
be displayed.
-        Select the converted DSSYS file that was saved previously.  This file will be uploaded to the
SD Memory Card as the backup DSSYS file (DSSYS_S).  A message is displayed when the
transfer is complete.
-        Click OK.
-        Next, go to the Utility menu, System Reset and then click Reset by the Command.
-        Select Skip to continue without backing up current data to the SD Memory Card.
-        Select Use Replace File for DSSYS.
-        Click OK.
-        A confirmation screen will be displayed. Click OK.
-        Another confirmation screen will be displayed.  Click OK.

After the TAW848 resets, the upgrade process is complete.
